Identity

23rd November - 9th December 2023

Artbox London is delighted to present its Identity exhibition, showcasing the recent work of the artists with learning disabilities and autism who develop their creative practice in the Artbox studio.

We all have an identity which can be represented in many different ways. Some aspects of our identities are widely shared, some are more unique to us, but it is often our differences that make us special. Through painting, drawing, printing, collaging, sculpting and writing our artists have made artworks which they think best represent themselves. Some of the artists have made self-portraits in their own unique style, while others have reflected on the places that they come from or are meaningful to them in their work. Some pieces of artwork let characters reflect the artist’s identity, while in more abstract works, the artist’s particular use of colour and texture is the best method for them to communicate who they are.
