Volunteer with Artbox

Join Artbox London as a Creative Studio Volunteer

Are you interested in art, creativity, and inclusion? Artbox London is looking for committed volunteers to support artists in the studio.

About the Role

Artbox runs daytime workshops Monday to Saturday, 10am–1pm and 2–5pm. Studio volunteers attend the same workshop each week, working alongside artists, facilitators, and other volunteers.

We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of six months. This consistency is essential to the way our studio works, allowing trust, familiarity, and meaningful relationships to develop over time.

Why commitment matters

Many artists at Artbox benefit from structure and continuity. Familiar faces and regular support help artists feel confident, settled, and able to focus on their creative practice.

A longer-term commitment also allows volunteers to understand individual communication styles, access needs, and ways of working, making the support they offer more effective and responsive.

In practical terms, each volunteer placement involves time and cost for recruitment, training, and safeguarding checks. A six-month commitment helps ensure we can invest in volunteers thoughtfully and sustainably, while maintaining a stable studio environment for artists.

What You’ll Gain

In return for your time and commitment, you will:

  • Be part of a supportive, inclusive, and artist-led studio environment

  • Gain experience working alongside learning disabled and autistic adults

  • Develop skills in communication, collaboration, and creative support

  • Receive guidance, check-ins, and support from the Artbox team

  • Have opportunities to contribute to other areas of the organisation where appropriate

  • Be eligible for a written reference after completing your six-month commitment

We welcome you

Artbox London is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We actively encourage applications from people and communities who are underrepresented in the arts or have faced systemic barriers to participation.

DBS information

Volunteers are required to hold an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, as the role involves working with vulnerable adults. If you do not already have a suitable DBS, Artbox can arrange this for you.

To complete the DBS process, you will need to provide original identification documents, such as a valid passport or driving licence, along with proof of address (e.g. bank statements or utility bills). We are unable to accept screenshots or downloaded copies.

This is a standard safeguarding requirement and helps ensure a safe, supportive studio environment for everyone.

How to apply

If you are interested in becoming a studio volunteer, please read the role description and complete the application form.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to the studio for an interview and short taster session, giving you the opportunity to meet the team, experience the studio, and see whether the role feels like a good fit.
