Participating Artists

How can I join Artbox London?

If you would like to become an artist at Artbox London, please complete an application form and email it to studio@artboxlondon.org. Our team will review your application and get in touch to discuss next steps.

If you prefer to speak to someone by phone, you can call the studio between 9.30am–5.30pm, Monday to Saturday, or leave a voicemail with your name and address and we can send you an application form.

Once we have received your application, we will usually arrange a taster session so you can meet the facilitators and other artists, and see whether Artbox feels like the right fit for you.

If you are interested in volunteering rather than attending as an artist, please visit our Volunteer page for current opportunities.

Who can take part in Artbox London?

We work with learning disabled and autistic adults aged 18 and over.

Many of the artists we work with have additional or complex support needs and face barriers to accessing creative opportunities. If you’re unsure whether Artbox is suitable for you or someone you support, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to talk it through.

Do I need to be an experienced artist to take part?

No. Some artists have been making art for many years, while others are completely new. We welcome artists at different stages of their creative journey.

Is Artbox a drop-in service?

No. Artists usually attend regular weekly sessions and develop their creative practice over time. This helps us build a supportive studio environment and offer more personalised, artist-led support.

What kind of support do you offer?

Sessions are led by experienced artist-facilitators and supported by staff and volunteers.

Artists usually work in small groups, and we tailor support to individual interests, access needs, and goals. Where appropriate, 1:1 support may be available and discussed as part of the application process.

Do artists need to pay to attend Artbox sessions?

Most artists contribute towards the cost of attending studio sessions. Fees are subsidised to keep sessions affordable, and we can offer further reductions so that cost is never a barrier to participation.

If you have any concerns about affordability, please get in touch and we can talk things through.

Can sessions be funded through personal budgets or social care?

Many artists use personal budgets or support from social workers to cover session costs. If you’re unsure what funding options might be available, we’re happy to discuss this with you.

Artwork, Exhibitions and Sales

Can I buy artwork made by Artbox London artists?

Yes. Original artworks, prints, and other items are available through our online shop and at selected exhibitions.

Can I commission an artwork?

We welcome commission enquiries. If you have an idea, please contact us and we’ll discuss how we might match the brief with an artist whose practice and interests align.

How are artists paid, and where does income from art sales go?

When artwork is sold, income is shared between the artist and Artbox. This supports both individual artists and the ongoing studio programme.

  • Original artworks: artists receive 50% of the sale price

  • Prints and commissions: artists typically receive around 25%, reflecting the additional time, production, and support costs involved

The remaining income is reinvested into Artbox to support studio space, materials, exhibitions, staff time, and opportunities that enable artists to continue developing and sharing their work.

This model helps ensure artists are paid for their work while sustaining a supported studio where creative practice can grow over time.

Do you host exhibitions?

Yes. We regularly present artists’ work in galleries, public spaces, and partner venues in London and beyond.

Details of current and upcoming exhibitions can be found on our Exhibitions.
