Blue Spider Lily on the Grass, 2023

Digital Print Illustration created in procreate.

I chose to draw these flowers because I like the blue colour and the flicks of the white in the flowers go well together, they look interesting.

When I added the leaves behind and the green background it looked more attractive. I like the shadow of the leaves. I added the flick of white for the stems to go with the white in the middle because it stands out. I added the green in the centre of the flower to go with the outside background.

The blue I have chosen for the flowers is a different blue, when choosing the blue I couldn't find the exact match on the tablet to the flower so I have chosen my favourite blue instead.

The colours in the work are my favourite shades of blue and green.

I collaborated with my volunteer Sage in coming up with the leaves in the background and they are like a shadow which I liked.

The colours I work with are strong, bold and contrasting. I put the colours together to stand out. I picture the colours in my mind and think about how they would look together. Then when using the colours I see how they sit together, if it looks good I keep the colour palette and if the colours don't go well I would choose different colours or swap the colours around in the composition until I come up with a way that it stands and looks good. This is usually a quick process and this is my process in all my work, I learned this studying art at school where I passed my exam.

I usually work in my favourite colour or the colour of the reference material i work with.

The boldness of my work represents my character and my uncompromising nature when it comes to selecting colours and motifs.

This work relates to the theme of identity because I have done art for years. Since I was at school, I have always liked art, and from school until my age now of 41 I have been making art. I have been at Artbox since it started.

My style is towards graphic illustration, and I simplify the reference material I work with to create my designs. Since I have started I have used references of animals, flowers, people, london landscapes, iconic buildings and many more. I am very methodical with colouring and the process of making art.
