Violet’s artworks are heavily influenced by her interests and heritage. Coming from a Greek and Cypriot family, she weaves references from ancient marble sculpture and historical artefacts — such as treasures displayed in British Museum — into her own expressive paintings, sketches and sculptures. Violet’s love for animals, particularly her fluffy black cat Delilah, is depicted in various forms and abstractions in her work. Techniques such as her own ‘double flip’ allow her to make drawings that appear the same when viewed upside down, to provide unique perspectives and creative ways of seeing her art. Her sculptures feature intricate detail, textures and uses of colour that express the imagery that comes from her own imagination.

Violet says that she is always trying to “look at the world differently — in a different light,” and that she is “always thinking of what the next world is going to look like.” These ideas about life and the possibilities of the world are interlinked with her Greek/Cypriot heritage and involves elements from many Greek gods, myths and legends which can be seen within her work. These themes link closely to thinking about death and the afterlife, as Violet finds her art is a way to express her love and respect for loved ones who have passed, as it is custom in many Greek families to have an annual anniversary of someone’s death. For Violet, making art is a matter of bringing ideas from her mind into reality, and hopes that her works bring happiness to other people in the same way creating brings joy for her.
