The Church Crier at the Altar, 2023

Acrylic and clay on wood

'The patterns, circles and flowers are easy to make'.

‘The easter egg patterns’ in this piece, Patricia says, are in other artworks of hers.

There is often a person in Patricia’s work. There is ‘an archway’ in this piece ‘with flowers around it.’ The church crier in the piece ‘is reading the notes and he is talking about friendship.’

This piece connects to Patricia because: ‘I am Catholic, I am Christian as well, and I used to be a crier. A crier is; singing my favourite song, ‘Kumbaya, My Lord.’ I had the holy communion, the bread and wine.’

Patricia says of her work and her experience of creating it: ‘All the work I've done, like ‘The Church Crier at the Altar’, [is] for people to think about my work. I really appreciate coming here. I'm so pleased with myself.’
