Tom

Tom’s work bursts with colour, texture, and intuitive energy. He comes into the studio every week with new tattoos drawn on his arms and new stories about his job at Tom’s Cafe. This creative and excited energy is reflected in his work, where he moves confidently between abstraction and figuration in a way that is both instinctive and thoughtfully composed. A big part of Tom’s life is his acting at the Chicken Shed, and it shows up in his art often - layered scenes of movie posters, characters from theater, and places from his favourite films, all overlapping in vivid dialogue. Working with oil pastels and paint, Tom embraces rich contrasts - deep reds against luminous yellows, loose marks alongside dense blocks of colour. The range in his practice creates a feeling of continual exploration, with each piece expanding his visual language.
