Max
Max’s drawing is at the centre of his practice - he keeps a thriving sketchbook, full of drawings from holidays, objects around the home, ‘plein air’ excursions and the landscapes and architecture he encounters. His line work is careful and deliberate, with a tendency to round off sharp shapes, lending his subjects an approachable, even cartoony feel. Layering watercolour and inks over pencil lines, his colour choices are bold, though avoid high contrasts, giving his work an impactful and harmonious hum.
Max is well attuned to his sensory environment - sound, colour and shape - and his work reflects this observant nature. These sensitivities imbue his work with added emotion, coaxing the stuff of the everyday - pot plants, postcards, pictures from books - to life.
