Ahmar

Ahmar's process involves selecting photos of celebrities he likes; previous works have included paintings of Keanu Reeves, Snoop Dog, and NDubz. He also likes selecting editorial pictures, and portrait works from artists, most recently recreating ‘Madonna on Vogue’ by Godfired Donker.

Ahmar has previously said of his work that he enjoys ‘painting, using the different colours and looking at the different people I was drawing.’ He has a very focused way of painting, exploring the actions and the feeling of painting. When Ahmar starts working he gets in the flow of the work and enjoys the sensory qualities of the medium he is using, whether it is charcoal, pencil or acrylic.

Ahmar predominantly works in acrylic paint and has recently been exploring different applications of paint from splatting the paint, inspired by Jackson Pollock to rollering the paint to create abstract backgrounds and creating the outline of a portrait by using needle tip bottles, which creates a 3D form on the paper.

In his drawing style Ahmar creates a very definite, confident outline that has a very distinct and reductive style, where Ahmar brings out the main features of the face he is creating a portrait work of.
