This is a part of a series of works that Ahmar started by painting a solid colour and splatting bold coloured paints to create an abstract background. He was inspired by Jackson Pollock.

Ahmar describes how he started this piece: “I started splashing on the paper, got the photo of ‘Madonna on Vogue’ and started to lightly brush the person into the paper, I added my own colours.”

Ahmar chose a reference image to work from - ‘Madonna on Vogue’ 2010 by Godfreid Donkor.

Ahmar chose to call this work ‘A woman who is standing, who is proud of her culture.’ Ahmar would like people to feel happy looking at this work.
