Maz
“I like art so much because it’s in my blood and it’s my family. It’s like magic, it’s like love, I can feel it in my veins. Artbox is somewhere new which I have really enjoyed. It’s like an Artbox family.”
“My work is all different just like me; I am unique”
Maz’s art radiates colour, optimism, and unapologetic individuality. Their practice draws on a wide range of influences - from the bold graphics of Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst, to the artistry of their grandfather, and the spiritual traditions of Buddhism. The mandala is a recurring motif, reimagined with a contemporary twist, its intricate geometry filled with vivid, joy-filled colour. They also create portraits, pop-art objects, and other works that celebrate identity, peace, and community, with their LGBTQ+ advocacy and Buddhist faith infusing each piece with belief and beauty. “Art is like magic… in my blood… I can feel it in my veins,” they say. “My work is all different just like me; I am unique.”
