Nicholas’ work often focuses on seascapes, from calm still waters to the rhythmic movement of the waves. His passion for the sea stems from visits to Watergate Bay in Cornwall. There he drew and immersed himself in the landscape, collecting pebbles which were taken back to the studio and drawn around to create frames for his paintings. More recently, man-made subjects have crept into his paintings. Nicholas’s favourite shop is Paperchase, a shop he visits often and obtains many materials from, and he has begun to reference these materials in his art. Nicholas’s tendency to produce artwork sparked by environments he has been to and loved, gives his pieces a tangible sense of place and memory.
